Freedom and pressure in self-disclosure

2013

Today there is great openness about breast cancer, and the current ideology is that this is considered positive. This article draws upon sociological and philosophical theories to explore psychological practices. We ask: do women experience as much freedom to not talk about their illness as they do to talk about it? Do they experience that not being open is as favourably valued as openness is? The article is based on an ethnographic study in which women have given detailed accounts of how, to whom and in which situations they have been open or closed about their illness. It shows that breast cancer sufferers do not always experience a real choice between withholding and sharing information.…

Negative Platonism and Maximal Existence in the Thought of Jan Patocka

2010

According to Jan Patocka’s “negative Platonism,” ordinary, or “positive” Platonism makes a fundamental mistake in formulating Plato’s true “discovery,” i.e., the Idea, as a non-objective determination of objectivity, in terms of an ideal object that sensible objects are supposed to imitate. Does this mean that Plato himself misunderstood the epimeleia tēs psychēs and human self-knowledge (exetasis)? Analogously, Patocka states that “classical phenomenology fell victim to its own discoveries and their imprecise formulation.” Is this due to the transcendental subjectivism of Husserlian thought or, rather, to the fact that Husserl could theorize only the modes of givenness of an object? Yrittäjän vapaus hoivapalveluissa : tutkimus hoivayrittäjien praktisesta vapaudesta

2018

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli analysoida yrittäjän vapautta hoivan tuottamisessa yhteiskuntafilosofisesta näkökulmasta. Tutkimuksen käsitteellinen konteksti rakentui hoivasta yrittäjyyden toimialana, jossa hoivaa jäsennettiin palveluna ja markkinaistuneena tuotteena. Tutkimuksen teoreettiset käsitteet muodostuivat Hegelin oikeusfilosofiaan perustuvista praktisen vapauden ulottuvuuksista, joita täydennettiin Berlinin negatiivisen ja positiivisen vapauden käsitteillä. Tutkimusaineisto muodostui viidentoista yrittäjän haastatteluista (N=15). Kahdeksan (8) yrittäjää toimi itsenäisinä yrittäjinä ja seitsemän (7) ketjuyrittäjinä kolmessa suomalaisessa franchisingketjussa. Tutkimuksen kohteena oleva…
